Back to school: New year, new life

From the Archives

It is back to school for me come January 2011! Yes, after years of procrastination, I’m heading back to school (hopefully online), beginning with this open house event at Community College of Philadelphia tonight at 6 PM. I’m excited and scared at the same time; beginning this New Year’s, I’m looking at a new way of life.

Worrying me most is changing the way I live. I live around my work, whether it is my day job or my growing businesses. Sure, I enjoy a nice outing or family movie night as much as the next person, but I LIVE around my work. Going back to school means sharing my love and enthusiasm with course work and classes. Can I handle that change?

4:42 PM C Bus broke down momentarily at Broad and Rising Sun Avenues. For the first time ever, I couldn’t care less because I’m way ahead of schedule and hadn’t realized I wouldn’t need so much time out work to get there on time.

4:55 PM Bus driver shouts back to passengers, “Anyone with a cell pone, can you please call SEPTA?” Not sure what that was about, but it is ONE way to make your passengers nervous!

5:03 PM Arrived alive. Here goes!!

Update: I enrolled in Community College of Philadelphia and began classes in January 2011. After completing English 101 and the foundational business management course, I took a break from school when I left my job at the time and was paying for school out of pocket. Since then, I took certificate courses in nonprofit management and led got certified in Quickbooks Desktop and Online. I’m now pleased to be taking a Business Administration degree course at University of the People.
