First thing in my view this morning: 25-year-old man found shot dead at F Street and Allegheny Avenue. Nothing particularly stirring about this news, since homicide is Philly’s living legacy, pardon the irony. No, what stands out for me is that only a few months ago, I still lived there and probably faced a similar death every day. Only the mercy of God keeps and protects me, as I still travel through the old neighborhood to and from work every day. I’m saddened by the tragedy and outraged at the senseless violence. I know the answer, and there aren’t many who want to hear it. Because the truth hurts. And everything else kills.
